I went on an interview ad the hiring manager said she was looking into doing that....is that strange? She also said out of 28 applicants she was interviewing 14....

If it's a webcam constantly on, to monitor the employees while they're working, yes, it's weird. If it's a setup for teleconferencing when needed, is pretty standard - saves a lot of travel time. So depends on which she meant.

Interviewing 14 candidates out of 28 applicants is a pretty high ratio, but maybe she just got lucky and there were a lot of qualified applicants.

I work in Europe and we have operations centers in 3 major cities in 3 different countries. We conduct our meetings via webcams set up in our conference rooms. It's not strange at all...it's a cost effective way of doing business in the 21st century!

Bosses who spy on their employees with web cams should be avoided at all cost. This boss is a control freak and slave driver.
