Dark colors absorb heat, light colors reflect it.
Not just in textiles. Houses.
If you ever touched a black car or a white car in bright sunlight with your hands, you'll find that the black car will burn your hands, the white one feels just warm to your touch.
That's why I would NEVER own a black car.
They are also hotter when you get into them and cost a lot more to operate because of the extra load on the air conditioning.

Yes, dark-colored fabrics absorb more light and therefore become hotter to wear. My local news had a segment about this topic. The temperature of different colored T-shirts were measured after they were set out in the sun for a certain period. The white T-shirt was about 98 degrees; the black T-shirt about 144 degrees!

However dark-colored fabrics are better versus light-colored fabrics at blocking ultraviolet rays so they slightly reduce your chance of getting a sun burn. You should still wear sunscreen no matter what color fabric you're wearing!

Absolutely! Especially black. I lived in Florida for three years and you "could not" wear black at all. I tried one day....and before I could get ten feet out of my condo...I almost fainted. I had on a black tee shirt (because I just didn't believe the hype) and it felt like I had a heater sitting on my chest. I never even tried to wear a dark color again.

It doesn't absorb more heat, it absorbs more light, therefore making you hotter. The white/lighter clothing makes light reflect off the person more, so the person stays cooler.

100% true. Notice that Arabs out in the desert wore light, loose fitting clothes. Keeps the sun off, doesn't absorb heat, and actually lets your body breath, and cool itself better.
