guitar is hard to play and you won't suddenly be a rockstar. Find out if there are guitar lessons near your house. If there aren't any go to a music store. The people there will help you and you'll be able to get simple sheet music like Leaving on a Jet Plane or What a Wonderful World (the James Taylor one). Also watch on tv for people playing simple songs and try to put your fingers on the same frets and strum along with them.

You really need lessons And you cannot learn to "play now". lol It takes time and a ton of practice and persistence and patience. You need to learn to read music and learn all the proper fingerings too. You need lessons. After a series of good lessons and after you progress, you can then do more on your own. Trying to learn without a proper teacher is nearly impossible especially if you have no prior experience reading music, know rhythm and have no clue the hours and hours and hours needed to be able to play Unless you are the unusual and are exception of highly gifted people who can learn something like this on their own you won't. You will not play well, and get frustrated and quit. Lessons can be found at some music stores, in the phone book and by private teachers who can come to your home. If you really are serious and want to play long term and play well, you need proper instruction.

They are different things. Playing guitar is different than playing guitar hero. The comparison doesn't work. Some people are not as musical adept at playing instruments as others

We can't tell you on here. Get some books, find some lessons, or even teach your self. Going to a music store and asking them for help works good. I suggest how to play guitar video's work good too. Good Luck!

Buy a beginning chord book, some picks, have the guitar tuned and checked by a good music shop and then start practicing.
Practice till your fingers get sore, rest and practice some more.
Unless you have one of the few natural talents, it takes most of us pickers and grinners many times thru to learn the simple riffs used with most songs.
Don't give up practice and learn
Good luck

go to a music store or just wal-mart/k-mart and buy a guitar book. That should teach you the basics, then if you want, email me for guitar chord charts. That helps a lot, and it's free. Good luck! (I'm trying to learn, too)

Umm, try http://www.ultimate-guitar.com.
That's what I used to learn how to play mine. You just search for a song, but make sure it is chords, not tab.
When you click on the song you want, there is a 'View Chord Diagrams' checkbox at the top. Check it. Then it shows where you need to put your fingers to play the chords. I learned all on my own, it takes a lot of practice to play the first song, but it's worth it.
