If the moon were to turn red (not during an eclipse), would there be some scientific explanation for it? Like, is there any reason or process that could or has happened that the moon would turn red? Also, same question for the sun turning black. But I'm mostly wondering about the moon.

I am referring to the biblical description of the end times. But I'm really just curious to know if and what the explanation for it would be. Reason: the Bible says that people won't recognize the signs. The way I figure it, if the moon just all of a sudden turned blood red out of nowhere, nobody could miss it. If scientists try/tried to explain it however, then that would explain to me how people could be blind to the supernatural phenomenon. Just my thoughts. Don't want a debate, just an explanation.

Here's your answer. It's called a Blood Moon. It happens when the moon is in the Earths shadow. (A reverse eclipse.) The red comes from the sun light passing through earth's atmosphere and bending to shine on the moon while in the shadow. It's the same thing that causes a red sunset or sunrise. It happens near the time of Halloween often. There is no other time you will see it red. People think of an eclipse as when the moon is between the sun and the earth but it happens the other way too. Sometimes you see a crescent moon with the dark part slightly lit up too. This is caused by Earth shine. Light is then being reflected off earth and onto the dark side. That's cool too.(But not red.) Hope this answers your question.

Revelation 6: 12: When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, 13: and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale;
14: the sky vanished like a scroll that is rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. 15 Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 They called to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!
17 For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?"
BLACK BODY
A black body is an idealized body that is a perfect radiator and perfect absorber of electromagnetic radiation. A black body not only absorbs all wavelengths of energy and radiates at all wavelengths, but it does this at the maximum possible intensity for any given temperature. It doesn't necessarily look black. A star is a good approximation to a black body since stellar gases are very good absorbers of energy.

Black sun is unlikely we have never recorded one, it would be like a bole hole rather than a star.
Red Moon could be caused by atmospheric conditions.

the moon thing- apart from light refraction, there would be iron oxide maybe from a volcano or or disastrous impact, from some kind of fire.
the sun turning black could be blindness from the impact

hey, if any volacnoe explode in one sides of the earth, the smoke may turn th color of the light source to another color, when you see it in the other side... thats why sometimes moon and sun turns opposite their color..

The moon has been "reddish" before. Are you asking because you think it means the world might end?
