Well I would say 9:00-9:30pm.
I have a 12 year old boy and he has been going to bed at 9:00 -9:30 PM for a few years now. This school year, he will turn 13, and I will let him stay up until 10:00- 10:30PM. This is only on Monday - Thursday during the school year. On weekends and summer , it is 11:00 and that is INSIDE OF MY HOME, not out roaming the streets! If you let a 12 year old now stay up past 9:30PM, what is the child doing? Watching prime time TV, playing video games? What activities are keeping the child awake? And then when the child becomes a teenager, what do you have to work with , a 12:00 -12:30 am curfew at age 14 or 15 when they start dating and going out on the weekends with friends alone, with no adult supervision? And then at age 16-17, they will expect to stay out, and up, even later, until like 1:00-2:00 AM. Don't rush it, they will grow up too fast and there is plenty of time for late night TV when the child is older.

Usually when your parents say to is best (keeps the yelling down). But you actually need like 9 hours of sleep as a teen so it depends when you normally have to get up. A regular schedule is best so if you usually gotta get up at 7 am then maybe 10 pm is about right, if 8 am then 11pm and so forth. Don't try to change it too much on the weekend cuz then monday is a bummer.

It depends when they get up. During the summer , I am more lenient. I like my boys to get 8 to 9 hours of sleep. They go down at 10:00pm and they are 9 and 6 years old. They get up between 7:00 and 8:00.

I think it depends on the schedule of the 12yr old. My son is 10yrs old on school nights he is in bed by 9-9:30pm latest. Why? He has to be up by 6:30am. Summer time since school is out I pretty much let him stay up late like 12midnight. He works hard during the school season so I try to be easy on him in the summer time. Hey, it's summer and his only 10, he needs to have fun too right. Anyway, his so use to his schedule of 9-9:30pm that he never really stays later then 11pm. Just keep in mind that at that age kids need alot of sleep still.
