Everyone picks on America saying we are the devil, that we cause all these problems in the world. Let me tell you some history, Nazis- Germany- Holocaust, Japan- WWII, China- Tinaman Square and the repression of ideals and freedom, Cambodia- Khmer Rouge, Present day- Iraq- extermination of Kurds, The constant hijackings of airplanes prior to 911, 911 itself. Ireland and the IRA. There is so much tension going on in the world today that if we didnt help what would be the results. Look at all the aid we give countries that need it the most, we dont have to do it but we do. So why does everyone think that we should either mind our own business or help, cant have both. This country has help produce some of the modern convienences in the world today, if we didnt well i dont know how it would be. yes we have some idiots in our country, but look at all the good we do. We didnt ask for 911, well we were not prepared for it. So for all of you that hates our country, if not us who would help you

my name Paki is a misspelling of Hawiian name Pakelekia which means Patrick, the i should be an e, This country i will admit has made some mistakes in its time, I love my country as much as another, the thing is no country is perfect, if you believe that well you are living in a fairy land, every country has made mistakes, yes we had slaves, but who got them first. Dutch traders, racism well as i said there are some idiots in this country. If everyone hated this country so much why does everyone come here to live or visit. Why do middle eastern countries buy military supplies from us? why do we buy goods from other countries, to help them out. if we isolated ourself, closed all our borders let no one in or out, the rest of the countries would be in sad state. try to imagine a world like that, pretty scary, you can put us down, make fun of us, but if you think your country could better, prove it, old saying goes, put up or shut up.

Here is my one promise.
Each of these people who claim to be American at the same time they lament what a horrible country we have become make all of their judgments based on emotion.
They are either incapable of or unwilling to be pragmatic when it comes to US policy. I believe we could safely divide the country's philosophy into two camps. One camp understands through education and historical reference that war is hell. This same group also understands that---sometimes---war is necessary.
The other camp believes war is hell too. The difference is they are unwilling to face the reality of the real world we live in. they believe that war is never justified---short of perhaps someone having a knife to their throat.
Every day in America we are faced with difficult choices. We must make a decision that will positively affect one group always at the peril or discomfort of another. We must decide what is morally right in conjunction with these decisions and, at the same time, remain diligent in our end goals.
In WWII we faced a decision with regard to Japan. We labored in deciding if the lesser of two evils was to drop a bomb that would vaporize countless thousands of innocent men, women and children and, in the end, kill more than 200,000 civilians.
Why on earth would anyone even consider such an act? Because the thinkers of our time understood that, if we decided not to, we would be involved in a far longer, much more difficult war that would cost both sides an even greater number of lives.
One side says I don't care about the saving of life in the long run. There is no justification for killing 200,000 innocent people. The other side says the ends justify the means.
While the later is harsh and distasteful---it is pragmatic. THAT is the difficult reality of the world we live in.
As we speak, the United States is helping with the Avian Influenza response, the rebuilding of Iraq's infrastructure (now more advanced, even after the war, than pre-war), assistance to Afghanistan, we are the world leader in AIDS research and prevention funding, humanitarian aid and construction help for the people of Sudan, reconstruction for many Asian countries after the Tsunami, and most recently more than 30 million dollars in humanitarian aid to Lebanon.
This doesn't even BEGIN to scratch the surface of all that we do and provide the world.
Before you have a knee-jerk reaction to the United States---consider ALL the facts, consider ALL we do, consider the good and not only the easily distasteful aspects that ANY superpower in this world faces. Understand that it is the very people you so easily condemn that are making the incredibly hard decisions that provide you the cozy, safe life you enjoy and..................... sadly for so many, take for granted.

Let's see...The Revolutionary War - tore up alliances
WWII - the encampment of Japanese Americans
The ENTIRE Vietnam War
Desert Storm
The current Iraq war, which has no purpose other than killing off as many Americans and Iraqis as possible.
We helped lead to WWII by not joining the League of Nations, thus making it fall apart, and not giving help to the German people, thus making Hitler believe that Germany was completely wrong, and also making the German people so willing to follow him.
Minding our business = not blowing up Iraq. Helping = not blowing up Iraq.
Most of the modern conveniences of the day came from European countries and Asia. And Japan. Japan...and France. We really contribute nothing except making thousands of new prescription drugs that we don't need, but they TELL us we need them, thus furthering the dependence on antibiotics.
America's NOT that great, dude. You need to wake up to that. I'm so SICK of all these patriotic Americans. Maybe we USED to be the greatest country, but that's LONG gone.

I am a filipino!GOD bless America!American people are the most generous people in the world and many poor countries had benefitted the said aid and charities!Needless to say, when you ask every person outside america what place they want to migrate,99% USA is the definite answer! Because USA is such the most dominant country in the whole world, and always involved in controlling wars around the world, they get envy for such a hero country!

I am fully with you. I wish to also say that America gets a bad name in spite of all the good it does. This is because actions are not well thought out ad planned meticulously.Did they have an exit plan in Iraq? There are some historical blunders well known to all. Vietnam, Bay of pigs and Somalia to quote only three examples out of many. But the courage of George Bush to stand up to what he believes in despite all odds is commendable. He brought in measures so strong that there have been no incidents in US after 9/11. US is a technological super power and whole world expects good leadership and fair dealings from US.(of course commensurate with its national interests)

America is the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, many countries adopt our 'western' ways while bashing us...seems ironic to me they hate and love us at the same time.
We are not the devil and there are many in different countries who do not view us as that way, its just the extremists and loudest seem to get the press all the time. I look at it like this America is kinda of like the most popular and respected person in school, the nay sayers and near do wells who are jealous and resent her popularity are always trying to undermine and tear her down while at the same time envious of her.....be proud to be an American...but also others ought to be proud of their countries...they don't have to be mutally exclusive...you can be proud of yourselves and accepting of others ! as for all the wars and stuff, heck all countries have fought/conquered for centuries, America is no exception.

Yes! Good points. Very good indeed! What we need is moderate/middle of the road Republicans and Democrats, Socialist and Communist, Libertarians and Feudalist to come together in one location and hammer out real solutions for the challenges facing the US, and maybe, just maybe, we can keep from going terminal in the next 13 years.

The reasons so many people are down on America are......
1. They are jealous of us and compensate for their jealousy by saying negative things about us.
2. They are a bit cowardly and are so very afraid to do or say anything that would offend someone.

the world has their own opinion, but most of how that gets to us, and how they form that opinion, is the information available. the liberal media will never have anything good to say about our country or anything we do, like building schools and hospitals, all our foreign aid, and so on because they don't want to approve of anything to do with this administration. sad isn't it?
