In some parts of the world they use a comma to separate every 3 units. ie 1,000 In others they use a full stop, but we use that as a decimal point. I found this most confusing when I put English numbers into a Spanish excel file. maybe your calculator is setup for the non British way. Best way to get success is to ignor all separators and just type the number.

You are dropping 3 zeros somewhere. Eg if you abbreviate £197,500 to £197.5K you would get that answer. is your caclulator like an adding machine and set to put everything to three decimal places unless you tell it otherwise?

Anyway, you know the answer now.

the answer is 7,900. When you entered it on the calculator you put in 197.500 divided by 25, you should have entered 197500 divided by 25

The answer is 7,900.

7,900 x 25 = 197,500

Your calculator probably has a setting to show answers in scientific formula. This is to make it easier to read big numbers. Look for a key or dial that can change this option so your answers show up in plain numbers.

Your calculator is correct - you are asking it - which figure fits into 197500 25 times - it is telling you 7.9 = £7,900. Good Luck

Is there a 3 after the 7.9? If there is your calculator is probably set to scientific notation.

I know what you did wrong. You shouldn't have entered 197.500 into the calculator, which gave you 7.9. You should have entered 197500, which would give you the correct answer, 7900.

The answer is 7,900, I think you have to move your decimal over a couple of places to get it.
