Where do you Live. Most lizard are not dangerous. In Fact they are helpful. They eat spider and bugs. They sound like the common skink or the common "wood lizard.. If they are, they will not harm you.I really don't know of any oisonois lizards in the United Stakes. The can bite if you are not careful catching them, but they don't hurt when they bite. Most of them are pretty tame if you catch them. Try having a 36" green one crawling in your floor and sitting on the back of your couch, while another 24 inch one tries hiding from you with his back legs and tail sticking out from wherever he thinks he's hid. It keeps unwanted guests out of your home and sometime keeps wanted guests from coming in. They really don't appreciate the beauty of them.

The lizards you describe are most likely the Western fence lizard if you're west of the Mississippi. They are harmless.

There are only three venomous species of lizard in the world: the Gila monster of southern Arizona, the Mexican beaded lizard of the Sonoran desert, and a newly discovered relative of the iguana (believe it or not) in Costa Rica. I know very little about this new dicovery (read it in Yahoo! News a month or two ago), but the Gila monster and Mexican beaded lizard are almost identical except for coloration and pattern. Both are slow-moving, both are rear-fanged, and both tend to be non-aggressive unless provoked. Their venom is not usually lethal to humans unless it's not treated, but it is VERY painful.

You won't see either a Gila monster or a beaded lizard unless you live in or around Tucson, Arizona. The Gila monster is black and pink and looks like its skin is made of round "tiles"; the beaded lizard is very similar, but its skin is a dark bluish-black with pale whitish-yellow markings. Beautiful creatures in their way... but don't pet them. :-)

Other than the very large species, there are only a couple of species with a dangerous bite. It may hurt a bit, but they're not dangerous. Don't worry about having them in the house, they eat the insects.
