I live in a very small rural area, I don't get out at all. I am happily married but a stay at home hobby farmer. I just have no friends. I would love to have pen pals. I love writting, and do that in my spare time. I somedays just feel so lost and alone. Any ideas, Thanks!

There are many, web-based communities devoted to hobbies and special interests. I'm sure there's one for 'hobby farming', in fact I'll bet there are several. Of course, that doesn't get you out of the house...
No matter how rural your home area may be, there's got to be some form of local, semi-local government (and/or other agents of community administration) that would welcome your participation.
How far is the closest hospital? Fire house? Church or charity Thrift Store? They would all, most likely, accept a mature volunteer with open arms.
Any skills you can teach or experience you can share at the local school or closest community college? Then there's the VFW, Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge...you get the drift.
I personally know someone in a very small town who organized a weekly card game for neighbors (most of them miles away from one another). It grew to the point that it's become a social fixture; with folks trading-off on hosting duties week-to-week.
TRAVEL is another great way to get out and meet people. Tour groups exist everywhere; even if they're just humble bus trips.
Barring all of the above, you could just put up a sign by the side of the road that reads "FREE BEER".
That'll do it.

u should try a little thing that takes up most ppls days and like the whole world has one its called MYSPACE!! its the best thing in the world and u can make friends lol
