You are a sad little man.
Just because your government hates communism, you automatically follow suit and hate Cuba?
Very sad. Cuba has done nothing at all to the United States.

Nope. Seems like he has ruled his people for years without interfering with any other countries, including US. Cubans have succeeded with the most severe and longstanding economic sanctions in recent history. Did we prohibit trade with Japan and German for this long after WWII? Aren't we still trading with countries in the Mideast that actively grow terrorists (Saudia Arabia)? Dont we trade with countries with atrocious human rights violations (S. Africa, China)? It's mind-boggling that we have been trying to punish them for this long.
The crazy thing is they survived and their little country breeds world class athletes. And the proof of how silly this policy has been is that 40 years later it turns out we didnt have to worry about Cuba being a base for Communist Russia. Castro didnt plan on pandering to them either. All they wanted was independence. And we have never faced a real terrorist type threat from this nation despite it being a small boat ride away from our borders. Just think we are punishing them for aligning with the Iron Curtain (or so we thought) and that whole system is long dead!
On the other hand, if the exiles feel safe returning to Cuba for whatever reason, maybe we can get South Florida back before the Mexicans and Guatemalans outnumber the Cubans.

i can not beleive how close minded some of the answers you have received are. ]
i am happy for the cuban people that a dictator who lied, and cheated to get the country in the first place back in the late 50's is finally realizing that he is old, 80 on august 13 and that maybe, just maybe he is finally dieing.
but then again, his people have been dying for 40 yrs of reign. they die trying to get out of the country, they die trying to come over to the u.s. and even though it is only 90 miles. you can die in those 90 miles considering you are traveling on a board made out of whatever u can find, no power except that of the wind, no food, because even if it is only 90 miles it can take up to 4 to 5 days to reach, it is shark infected waters, you can run out of food and water, and be the unfornutnely chance that you are spotted out by the coast guard, then you are sent back and again try struggling to come over.
if you might be lucky, you get a visa. you get to go to another country. then have to stay there for a couple of years before u can even considering coming over to the states to be with your family.
and if you have any kind of position like being a doctor, teacher, scientifist. for get about traveling with your family. they will let one of the parents travel but not both of them because they know that if they let the family leave , they wont come back.
but then again Fidel has pulled this action before. in 1991, someone declared that he was dying and it was all a publicity stunt to see how his people would react.

The people of Cuba have no freedom with him around. Im only happy if there is another dictator in his place that will put freedom in Cubans' hearts, and NOT his brother for christ sake! I know almost nothing about either of them, but what I know is enough to know that cubans dont have enough room to move around, so to speak, and im sure if a new dictator comes, he cant hurt cuba anymore!
