If anyone is taking depo Privera shots can you please tell me how they are working for you? And is there any truth about the weight gain, and if so did you notice right away?

I was on the shot for 5 years, I did gain up to 50 lbs over that course of time. But I also worked out like a dog to only have my weight to yo -yo like that. The first few months I was on the shot, I bleed like crazy, for about 6 straight months. And it wasn't light, it was hard bleeding - I had to start taking blood thinners and iron because I was fainting and weak. But after that first 9 months, I didn't have a period, which was grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat. Over the next 4 years, I was moody, emotional, depressed, and plumb. I also had a nervous breakdown during that time. And lost bone density
I know it all seems terrible and it was but not get pregnant and not having a period was a good trade off for me.
When I got off the shot is wasn't fun either. I continued to bleed for about 8 months and now I'm ok and my period is still not regular, but it is getting closer.
I think you should read as much info on the web that you can, then talk with your doctor. Have questions for your doctor on everything that you find on the web.

Yup, I gained 20 pounds in about 6 months. I got off the shot after 6 months...it just wasn't worth it.
If you don't like having a period, talk to your OB/GYN about the pill. Because from what I have heard, there's a way that you can take the pill and only have a period 4 times a year or so. But again, go to your doctor and they will help you out on that one.

I know several people that take the depo shot. They've all gained a lot of weight.
I take the yasmine pill and absolutely love it!!! Talk to your doctor see what he/she thinks you should do.

Warning: I gained OVER 100 pounds on the dep shot. I had one, it took 2 years for it to come out of my sytem. I was smoody, I hated myself. Not a good choice in birth control, plus it deteriates your bones. although studies have shown that your bones do regain their previous state after you get off of them, still a serious health risk.

My best friend had two shots and had weight gain and inflamation so bad that she couldn't have sex. It took her about 6 months to get back to normal.

it works good for me and i haven't even hada period yet thank god. the weigh gain i haven't got either so i'm good to go. no babies protected can't beat it
