Well, let's see. Bush appointed Bolton (after the Senate rejected the appointment) to be ambassador to the UN, based on the fact that Bolton had a long history of criticizing the UN and generally considered it a worthless and outdated organization.

So, it seems to be US policy (at least some of the time) to find the person who is most antagonistic toward a group and appoint them as ambassador.

I don't know know what Mel Gibson said, or what context it was in, or whether he meant it or not. But there are parallels.

I doubt that Mel Gibson wants that job. Remember what the French diplomat Daniel Bernard said about Israel. Gibson probably wouldn't like the smell of such a place as Israel.

Ask yourself this - Is Mel Gibson intelligent enough to be an ambassador to any country, when the best thing he has ever done is play the role of Mad Max?

No, they would want a liberal, any liberal to be an ambassador since the liberals seem to be for ANY country other than ours.
