The media makes way too much of everything that all celebrities do including Mel Gibson. Whether or not that was his true feelings doesn't matter. Put another way, do you think the media would have such a field day if this drunken ranting came from some ordinary citizen (like me, perhaps)? Of course not!

While I do agree the media take advantage of anything and everything it can - Mel gibson being a celebrity - in the public eye - drunk or not - should watch what crap he lets flow from his mouth.
Racism is an ugly disease and when influential people such as Mel go spitting out remarks as those he made it helps to spread the disease.
Yes the media may be making too much of this but they are also helping the world to see just how ignorant Mel Gibson really is.

I think he should have known better than to get drunk and get behind the wheel. That's the real root of this problem.
I don't think the media's making too big a deal about this, for once. I thought that making The Passion of the Christ was a very brave thing to do, and it was very well done. I also didn't feel that it was anti-Semitic. However, given the accusations of anti-Semitism, Mel Gibson should have been especially careful to avoid saying something like that. If he is an anti-Semite, the movie and its message lose a lot of potency with people who don't already believe. It's a shame.

It depends on what "way too much" is. Of course the media is making a big thing out of what one man said while he was drunk: he's a celebrity. Some random person could get drunk and say he was one of the terrorists of 9-11 and no one would freak out. He's drunk. I don't think Mel Gibson planned the whole event before hand, and I'm pretty sure he would take back what he said if he got the chance.

Well look. I'm Jewish and honestly I don't care what Mel Gibson said because here's the thing, none of what he said wasa the truth. I know that Jews arent the start of all the wars.
And another thing is this. Mel Gibson is an actor and a director, good luck to him now when he tries to get or put out a movie. All the producers and directors in Hollywood are jewish. its charma.

He was stopped for Driving drunk. He should have cooperated with the officer and nothing would have been made of it. He started mouthing off with the old line "do you know who I am" then started spouting off about Jewish people. It was videotaped from the patrol car. Two other officers showed up and one was female and he said to her "what are you looking at sugartits." Not the best way to get out of a ticket. Then he made an apology for what he did and blamed it on his problem with alcohol. He is a jerk who made it big and now thinks he can do and say whatever he wants. What an egotistical ahole.

He was drunk, most drunks tend to ramble on. The press is making way too much of it all. It's a shame he had to do this but he is getting help now.
