I am not a Jew so I don't understand. And I am asking just because I don't know, I am not trying to start anything. But, how is what Mel Gibson said, that Jews started all the wars in the world, anti-semitic?

His comment were steriotypical and implied that jews were agressive, warmongers.

It could also be read that jews are pulling the political strings of the world - based on the claim that jews control everything.

Eitherway, they were comments meant to incite hatred of jews.

Any comment meant to incite hatred of jews is antisemitic.

Its the equivalent of saying that all mexicans come to the U.S. to steal jobs, or that all black people are criminals. Or that white people are all racist.

All are steriotypical statements meant to incite hatred of each group.

The examples above are racists comments, made toturn peole against the respective races.

Anti semitism literally means against Semites. Semites were a group of people that lived in the middle east and are believed to be the group that Jews came from.

So antisemitism is to judaism as racism is to race.

Statements like that are designed to incite hatred, because they unrealistically projects blame on a generalized group of people.

Anti-semitism is hatred of Jews, so any statement designed to incite hatred against Jews is anti-semitic.

That kind of gross generalization has no other purpose. Can you think of any?

Ben is correct. I'm not sure why Mel would've said those things. He's a very spiritual person - but chronic alcoholism does awful things to a person.
