Possibly for a short transitional time, but communism has bled that country dry - it is poor, backwards and left behind - the people yearn to be free. Communism is a bad experiment that has failed nearly everywhere, and it is only a matter of time before it fails in Cuba as well. When Fidel Castro is gone, things there could get out of hand and the natural progression of events could lead to entirely different system of government being set up. The US will watch things very closely - as an island nation so close to our shores, Cuba is of great interest to the US, and getting a more friendly government installed there would be a great source of comfort to our government.

If Castro was smart, he has set up some sort of succession plan for when he is gone, which seems, with the temporary elevation of his brother Raul to take over the reins during his surgery and convalescence. It will be interesting to watch things unfold.

Raul the Maricon doesn't have the charisma that Fidel has.Although Fidel is a cold blooded leader,it's his wit and charisma that has held things loosely together all these years. Most people on the island don't like Raul the fruit cake.Only time will tell what will happened after Fidel drops dead.Hopefully soon.

That's a good question. For starters, communists nations don't immediatly change to a democracy, take a look at russia for instance. It only fell appart in the 90's but it started way before. It will need outside help to stop, and there will undoubtly be communist after-effects, everyone in cuba will still feel they are in a communist country. Plus, we have to wait for his brother to die.

The answer is Yes, Raul is not any easier than Fidel and the power structure hasn't changed, is just a man that would be gone but the ideological and political structure is intact, I think it takes more than this to change the situation.

Yes, his brother will take over, and is more strict than Fidel. If it does change it won't change to a democracy. Just a more strict form of communism.

Yes. HIs broher has just taken over. The brother is 75 years old and I don't if there are any other family members in line but until the citizens rise up and demand better and fight for it they will always be ruled by a despot.

I want to say yes, because they know no other way. But the U.S. will probably come through and stick their nose in Cuba's business and try to take over.
