58,000. We were trying to bring capitalism and democracy to Viet Nam Communism had sworn to take over the world and destroy all capitalist countries. It started to spread to Viet Nam, and we tried to stop it. We failed in doing so, but we did send a message to other countries that if they went communist there would definitely be a fight. Communism didn't spread very far beyond Viet Nam. Communism eventually failed in Viet Nam, with everyone being impoverished, and they are now willingly converting to capitalism, as are Russia and China.
