Because of the way they try to run the world and their general attitude that the USA is the best at everything.
And how can you have a world series of baseball when only the US takes part???

I think the media has alot to do with that. They portray Americans that way and they shouldn't. Look at the movies for example.
But there are loud and arrogant people in EVERY country.
France is a very good example.

Because we often are or, at least, come off that way. :) Big issues, like foreign policy, definitely contribute to this, but the way Ameircans interact socially is a big part of it.
- some of us are actually arrogant, but I think it has more to do with our lack of exposure to people from other countries/cultures. On average, most of us just haven't had as much contact with people from other countries do, and so our assumptions (about the world, our country's role in it, soccer, whatever) don't get challenged as often. As a result, we're more likely to be seen as "arrogant" because of the way we stick to those assumptions or get upset when they're challenged. Not that there's anything wrong with standing by your beliefs, but I do think that we could use some practice in discussing them politely with those who disagree. :)
- loud: we do speak more loudly than people in many countries. I think that's largely due to the fact that we generally keep greater "personal space" than most other cultures, who tend to stand closer to each other when talking. When you stand that close, you don't have to speak as loudly. :)

Because the rest of the world is just not as good as America or Americans!
Bow, scrape and attend to us - understand your own lowly place in the world and recognize our greatness, you contemptible foreign lackey!
[this is called sarcasm for those unable to understand subtlety]

people like to stereotype other groups because it helps them make better sense of the world, although it is a very simplistic way of handling a complex world. It is too bad people resort to stereotypes instead of trying to develop a greater understanding of the world.
