36 weeks is considered full term by most OB/GYN's. Yes, it could be labor. Talk to your doc to make sure it is labor, and not just Braxton-Hicks contractions. If it's labor then you will dilate, while Braxton-Hicks feel like labor contractions, they won't dilate you. Braxton-Hicks will come and go while true labor will stay and get loser togeather. Three hours isn't enough time for tell for sure if you are progressing. Do a walk-in with your normal doc and let him/her check you to see if you are dilating or not. He/She will be able to tell quickly and if you are far enough along, whether or not to go to the hospital or go home. If this is your first, labor can be very long and you might be more comfortable at home than in some delivery room.

Honey either you are in labor, about to be in labor, or having serious indigestion problems. You are almost 40 weeks so you are most likely in labor. But the hospital shouldn't have sent you home with contractions 2-3 minutes apart. You need to go back and cuss them folks out.

It sounds like your body is gearing up for labor. The good news is that any work your body does before active labor starts will hopefully make your labor shorter and easier.

If you are having contractions, you might also try drinking a big glass of water and laying down. If you are dehydrated that can cause contrax. If that's the problem, this should make them stop.

You could try having sex to see if that gets things going. Semen can ripen the cervix and orgasm can bring on contractions.

I've heard so many times about women being sent home in your situation, and then they go into real labor shortly after. I was really lucky with both of my babies in that my water broke both times, the hospital can't send you home when your water breaks. If I were you I'd get back to the hospital the moment your contractions get significantly stronger, when they start to become unbearable you are definately dialating. if you are planning an epidural, you do not want to miss your opportunity, I dialated so fast I almost could'nt get one.

Symptoms of early labor can include, but are not limited to:

* Pressure in the pelvis or vagina, or a sense that the baby has "dropped" prior to 36 weeks.

* Tightenings or contractions that seem to occur at more or less regular intervals (more than four to five per hour).

* Pain that comes and goes, whether it occurs in the lower abdomen or in the back.

* Any fluid loss or spotting.

It's good you went to get checked out! If you continue to have more contractions, go right back to your ob/gyn. To get more information on early labor and its causes, check out http://parenting.ivillage.com/pregnancy/pcomplications/0,,midwife_4743,00.html

good luck!

If the contractions seem to stop when you get up and walk around, or eat something and lie down, it could be false labor. Happened to me in both my pregnancies at the end. All of that and I still had to be induced! Good luck and call your doctor soon

Yes it could be, but you have to understand that the dr's will not let you deliver early if they can help it. It gives the baby the best chance at a happy life! Before 39 weeks, they usually stop it. This happened with me and my last (third) pregnancy. Good Luck, and stick it out. only one more week and you should be ready to go! Good Luck!!!

Yes it could. If the pains do not subside or get worse, or contractions closer together call your doctor. Good luck with your new baby

This sounds like either braxton hicks, your body is getting ready for the real thing.

Or very early labour, sometimes women go through several days of this (I know for myself, i laboured like this through the night, then be perfectly fine in the morning, I did this for a week then my water finally broke)

Good luck!
