No, he is not finished. it is the gossip of the day- soon to be replaced by someone else getting married, becoming pregnant, wearing something new. yadda yadda yadda. No one will even remember this incident in a month.

After reading all the responses to date, I have to say how ignorant people are. The only response that had any real intelligence was from pynkbyrd.
Mel Gibson was not being called to task for driving drunk, though he should have been. He was called to task for the many deplorable things that he said and how he reacted to being arrested and made accountable for his actions.
People have said he should be forgiven for things that he said while intoxicated. However, we are at our most uninhibited when we are under the influence. His upbringing from an anti-semitic father has shined clear through.
The person who responded with the agreement that all the wars were started by Jews needs to take a history class. Just take a look at what is going on in the Middle East today!
Mel Gibson is supposedly working on a project for TV about the Holocaust. That is a true publicity move.
So, I will get off of my soap box and say that I will not support any of Mel Gibson's work.

You have got to be kidding. When was the last time you saw someone in Hollywood kicked out because of substance abuse? Hell, it is almost a prerequisite for BEING there. Where he screwed up was driving his own car while sh!tfaced. So he will do some community service, probably telling others how not to screw up like he did, and get on with life.
89 in a 45 zone is pretty funny though. I wonder how fast he was really going. When the police end the number in a 9 it usually means they cut you a break.
As far as his other remarks at time of arrest, he was drunk. .12 is pretty heavily drunk. You say stupid things. Obviously.

After some of the things other celebrities have been forgiven for doing, it would be hypocritical for Hollywood to ban Mel Gibson.
But, they'll do it anyway. I'll stand behind Mel Gibson before I stand behind people like Michael Moore, Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Martin Sheen - and all the other arrogant Hollywood types of today.

It's not a matter of people going to see his movies; it's a matter of his getting his movies made now. Even Hollywood has a line which should not be crossed. He would have bounced back from the drunk driving charges, or even if he'd smashed his car (and not killed anyone in the process), but he insulted a group of people who have had the majority of influence and power in Hollywood since the 1930's. He bit the hand that feeds him.
So, in answer, I believe he is done, and it's a real shame.

No. because everyone knows that he isn't a moron. How dare people say these things?! People make mistakes, I'd like to see anyone else do any better under the pressures of his life. And he apologized for everything, calling his actions "despicable". He isn't through because he is an amazing and talented actor and director. Not to mention the fact that the logic on that is so dumb... is Colin Ferrall banned because he drinks? Is any other famous person ousted because they made headlines? No. It gains them more exposure. Mel is here to stay!

I, too, like Mel Gibson. I continually have. i imagine he's a personality above reproach in a lot of situations. not often has he been in the fave public eye with such countless defamatory comments. His artwork is sturdy and he develop into merely retaining an OPINION, which i imagine we are all entitled to. that would not make him undesirable. it ought to, even if, damage his possibilities of being considered on the tremendous reveal. It virtually did the Dixie Chicks in and what they stated develop into merely opinion depending. besides that, what percentage situations have human beings stated stuff at the same time as lower than the impact that they does no longer typically say?

Time will tell. If the only people who stop watching Mel Gibson's movies are people who have never, ever said stupid things when drunk, his fan base won't decrease much!

I will still go see his movies, cause I like him as an actor. After all he publicly said he was sorry and made a mistake. Who can tell me 5 other men that have done that?? So yea I will go see his movies because he will recover from this. Unlike say Nick Nolte...

No way. If people didn't see movies by filmmakers who had been arrested there would be no Hollywood. His next film, Apocalypto, looks very good.
