I took Algerbra 1 as an eighth grader too. Honestly, it is not that bad. In my opinion the hardest part of algerbra 1 was quadractics by solving and graphing them, so if you don't understand it, I would seek help from your teacher. Well best of luck to you & you're not being paranoid

Learn the multiplication table backwards and forwards so that if someone asks you to multiply two numbers together you can do it without really thinking about it.
Algebra is all about thinking abstractly. Don't worry about questions like, "When will I ever use this?", because you will in some form.
"Y = mX + b" is the standard form of a linear equation. That means it's how all equations for a straight line will look. Remember the form, not the letters though. You'll have situations where the equation may look like "R = tS + q". It's still the same equation, just different letters. Remember to think abstractly.
Algebra is really easy if you can master the above so I wouldn't worry about it.

Well I was horrible at Math in school and the only thing that got me through was being a pain in the A-S-S by asking a lot and I mean A LOT of questions I had no shame in asking and asking again and guess what the math idiot grew up to be...the math teacher hmmmm so don't hold back your teacher will actually like it it helps the teacher adjust their teaching and other people beme braver and start asking question when they see at least one shameless person so don't hold back and take every chance to participate make your teacher earn their paycheck!! We don't mind really oh yeah and go ask last year's techer for help if you need to or a teacher who does not teach math they get all scared but they will try and help you My only bit of real advice is the Glossary in the back and the index will help you alot !! Good Luck!!

you think YOU'RE in a bad position? i got accepted into algebra 1 when i was going into 7th grade(my parents are really into me doing academics)...but i lived through it with straight A's, and now i'm going into algebra 2 cuz i'm going into 8th grade.
You'll have an extra hour of homework each night, so make sure you can handle it. i spent many a night awake till 11 graphing quadratics.
Does your school have a free period? mine has a 20-min. one, and since my class was after free period i tried to get all my homework done so i could devote the night to algebra. If you have a free period after your class, try the reverse but don't try to get it all done in 20 min, cuz then you'll mess up and that's not good. NEVER rush on algebra homework!
It may be confusing at first, and you will have to work hard, but after a few weeks you'll fall into the groove. If you need anymore help, e-mail me at priyankahome@optonline.net. Good Luck!!!
P.S. I suggest you work on linear equations over the summer to prepare. it will definately help you in this class.y=mx+b!!!

Just do not fall behind. The early concepts in Algebra build into the later concepts, and you don't want to be playing catch up.
You are being a bit paranoid, but try to use that nervous energy to motivate yourself rather than let it cloud your rational thinking.

The obvious - do all your homework - ask questions. All textbooks these days have extra practice at the back of the book and online. Then there's always sites like this Yahoo!answers where those of us who are good at Math are more than happy to help someone out of a bind. We just really don't like when someone puts their entire assignment on here

Hey,
You have to know how to solve for X and other exponents. Also you might be a little paranoid. I'm just now going to college and I'm taking precalulous Algrebea. I have no clue what that is. You can go to www.mathhelp.com or to math.com or look up under a search engine for math help or tutering.
