Let's assume that an advanced extra-terrestrial civilization exists within the depths of space, with the capability and capacity of reaching Earth. There was a discussion on some science forum about how to find out if there is life on Io, under the thick layer of ice. Someone seriously suggested sending a lot of nukes to Io to blow a hole in the ice so we could take samples of the water.
So here's what I think ET will do: Oxygen is toxic to him, so he will start burning off the entire atmosphere. Then he will investigate the surface of the Earth and report home that there's no life on Earth but some evidence suggests that there once was.
