I have heard comments from Bollywood actors and statements made in movies like Bend it like Beckham saying that people from India would never date or generally socialize with people who are black or African American. I know this isn't true for every single individual person who is from India but I've come across this too many times and rather curious about why this possible prejudice exists.

Well, Some are racist, some are not. I'm friends(friends with benefits) with a guy from Bangladesh and he introduced me to his family as his girlfriend. The only person who really accepted me was his father, he was very kind and gave me extra food. His mother hated my guts. She was asking all of these racist questions about me like "How many children have you had?' "Are you on welfare?" "Why is your skin so dark?" BTW, I was lighter than one of her daughters. Most of his female relatives really didn't like me. We're still friends even though his mom and his family try to drive us apart.

Thr's nothing of that sort. In India, due 2 diverse climatic conditions, ppl of the south r generally ( not always) darker in complexion & ppl of he north r fair.Fairer skin is seen as a + pt.(this mentality is seen only amongst the lower midddle- class) but that doesn't mean darker ppl r looked down upon or not socialised with. The film u saw didn't have any of the Bollywood stars except Anupam Kher( the father). The family showed in the was a middle-class Punjabi family & this mentality is sometimes seen in Punjabi families as they r not very brainy & hence, have 2 solely depend on their looks.Punjabis r basically fair ppl since Punjab is situated in the north.
Due 2 the diversity in India, 'racism' is a word ppl don't understand here.

My guess is that people from India and the rest of S. Asia are like others. Some are rascist some aren't. A good movie that discusses this topic is an oldie called MIssissippI Masala. It stars Denzel Washington and was directed by an Indian American woman whose family I think came to the US from Uganda.

My friend's parent's are from India but she was raised in Africa. She moved to the states when she was a teenage and started high school.. that is where we became fast friends. Her parents treat me with great respect and always invite me over to their family functions. She never mentioned to me people from India being racist. But people would say the same thing about the USA, too. I have been faced with racism everywhere and in every country. Not just from one race group either... Racism is an individual thing. A movie is not a good source either...lol

Yes there is something in history about this. Simply look at India's caste system. The darker skinned-black skinned Indians are at the bottom. It is self-hatred. You and I both know where they got that dark skin from. East Indians are no different from any other group who considers themselves non-Black.
