One of the many questions that have puzzled Gilligan's Island fans over the years. Here are some others:
If the passengers were only going on a 3 hour cruise, why did they pack so much luggage (look at the different clothes that the Howells and Ginger wore)?
Where is the Island located? At least three different locations are used during the three years of the series?
Just how friggin big is this island? They seemed to run into a lot of different aborigines, volcanos, wild animals - you would think they were shipwrecked on New Zealand.
Why wasn't Gilligan killed before the end of the run?
How were so many other people able to reach the island in 3 years?
And my favorite - In 1978 they made a tv movie - Rescue from Gilligan's Island - after they were rescued and had fun trying to reconnect with society, they all decide to take another trip with the Skipper and Gilligan on a little boat - Now knowing how inept these two sailors were, who the hell would go out to sea again with them???
These, and a thousand other questions are mysteries, never to be revealed....

He left a career as an academic (I've done that work; it's neither sunny nor sexy) for a tropical beach paradise where he is by far the most attractive straight man (especially given the transparent gay banter between the Skipper and his Little Buddy) in a tiny community that includes both a starlet and the girl next door. Given those circumstances, I understand precisely why he would elect not to use his formidable McGyveresque talents to end the indefinitely prolonged Three Hour Tour.

the lack of stable hard wood to turn into lumber and the lack of iron ore on the Island to make nails in order to attach the wood that they did have to the boat body . There was also a lack of pine trees in order to make tar to seal the boat after the Hole was repaired if all the above could have been accomplished .

He's going to fix it, and then they're going to go rescue the folks on Lost. Kate ends up with Gilligan, Jack with Mary Ann, and in a huge upset, Hurley with Ginger.

The professor on the island was symbolic of all physicians in the world; they can treat any disorder, but they cannot cure anything.
