I have had very soft bowel movements since I found out I was pregnant. Milk and bananas have always helped me in the past to regulate this problem. However, not anymore! I can eat a bunch of bananas and still have this problem! Any suggestions? I would love to live outside of the bathroom!!!!!!

I have this very same problem when I'm pregnant! I'm in week 36 of my third pregnancy right now.

Tried the bananas and other "bulk-forming" foods but that didn't work, either. I would not increase your fiber intake too much unless you actually do get constipated, but you might want to cut back on fruit and fruit juices and make sure you're getting lots of water, if you're losing a lot of fluid in your bowel movements.

"Soft stools" are actually considered a positive thing in the medical world (as opposed to hard, dry ones) so it's really difficult to find advice or help with what can be a really annoying and messy thing.

I think for some women pregnancy hormones speed up stool producting rather than slowing it down. I have a fast metabolism, so maybe this explains the looser stools. It might be what's causing yours, too, or it could even be supplements or prenatal vitamins you're taking.

Cheese, rice, oatmeal. They might help to bulk it up a bit. Also, keep in mind that as your pregnancy moves along, you'll probably start having the opposite problem and be constipated. It's a normal and annoying part of most pregnancies because of baby's position and the way blood flow is prioritized for the baby during pregnancy. So, don't do anything to drastic.

So you are saying you ARE NOT constipated. Ease up on the fiber intake. Some woman find themselves to be lactose intolerant while pregnant. Maybe the milk is making you poop more now. Try giving up the dairy and see if that helps. Its definitely something in your diet.

Are your stools also very dark? For some people, the iron in prenatals causes diarrhea. I don't know if you are on prenatals yet. Cheese should help. Bran clogs me up, but it doesn't do that for everyone. Rice is also recommended for diarrhea. Yogurt and sweet acidophulus milk can also help diarrhea. Sweet acidophulus milk tastes just like regular milk.

No wonder you cant go. See what happens is milk has fat in it like cheese and stops your pipes up. Bananas are high in potassium which is good but to many can be fattening. I would have you drink allot of water with fresh lemon. Try other fruits like prunes. Grapes, cantaloupe, strawberry's,pineapple all fresh .

Most moms have the opposite problem while PG! Consider yourself lucky that you aren't constipated!

What about adding more fiber and dairy?

Are you taking a PNV?

I guess count yourself lucky, most women get constipated during pregnancy and that is oh so uncomfortable. That doesn't help you with this problem though. Seriously, eat more fibre/toast/cereal. Hope it helps.
