We have plans of getting married but my Boyfriends ex wife is very uncooperative. We tried to get in touch with her brother just to get the date and place where she filed the divorce but she instructed the brother not to give her contact number to us. She filed the divorce when we were living abroad. She didn't even send us a copy of the divorce decree. It is quiet hard to check every state to verify when it was finalized.

All we want is to be able to secure a copy of the divorce decree. I have tried calling the state agency but they want an exact county where she filed it. and if they don't find any we still get charged for that.

It would be to costly to try all county / city in new york and New Jersey ( I am not even sure if she filed it here)

my boyfriend / soon to be husband is actually the one asking for the documents but the ex-wife doesn't want to talk to him - not even to just provide details.

She filed the divorce when my BF was assigned outside of the US and cannot appear in court.

If she filed for divorce when you were out of the country then she would have posted an ad in the paper saying she is no longer responsible for his debts. That ad would be in her home town where she lived at the time. That ad would have to run several weeks.

Personally I doubt she filed. It is easier to keep you two guessing. Have him file for divorce and if it is already done the court will find out and you will know for sure. Better to have two divorces then get arrested for bigamy.

you'll need to know what county it was filed and it will take some looking but try this site http://www.brbpub.com/pubrecsitesStates.asp if you find it in there, contact the court listed and get a copy

You need to go to the court house and have him to request a copy of the documents. You can't do anything it has to be him...or access public records

Sounds like he is jerking your chain. If he is divorced he will be served as to when and where to show up for court. Sounds like he wants his cake and eat it too.
