He should be able to sit with support now. Prop him with pillows or in the corner of the couch. (My four-month-old loves the change of view and position this provides.) Just don't leave him unattended.
There are also infant seats that provide this kind of support for babies that are good at holding their heads up. You can take it anywhere so that baby always has a place to sit up.

You shouldn't try to make him sit at all. If he likes sitting, then help him balance. Otherwise, just wait until he is interested. A baby will be able to sit with some support on average at 4-7 months, and without support at 5-9 months. See sources section below.

You can't make him sit. Babies do those types of thigs when they are ready. If he's not sitting on his own at 4 months then just wait until he does it on his own. On your next regular visit with the pediatrician ask about developmental milestones and what time frame your baby should start to do these things,

You don't try to make the baby sit. The will do it on their own. You can prop the child up, but make sure you are there just in case the child can't hold it's own weight yet. When your child is ready to sit on his or her own, they will. It's a matter of strength, balance and coordination.

I would wait a few more months. Try getting him to roll over and hold his head up first and it will make his sitting up easier on you both

My son is 6 months and he still cant sit unassisted. Around 6 months they start getting strong enough, but it may take longer.

At four mos he can probably sit if you prop him up with pillows, a boppy or in one of those Bumbo seats.
By 5-6 mos he will probably be sitting unsupported.

Both of my kids sat up without any help around 6 months. If your baby tries to sit up, help her/him. Sit him/her up and support them. I used a pillow called Boppy its only about 20.00 and you can get it anywhere. Don't force her/him to if they aren't ready.
