That life isn't fair - that sometimes you're just gonna have to face the music, grit your teeth and be strong.

That you gain priviledges as you learn to handle responsibility - the two things go hand in hand.

That there are consequences for your actions and there won't always be someone there to bail you out when you've done something wrong.

That there will always be authority figures in their lives, and while they shouldn't necessarily follow them blindly, there is often a good reason they have that authority - so find out what you're dealing with before you buck the system.

That no person is one-dimensional, and there will always be more to any person they meet than they can even imagine - no matter how well they might think they know someone - so they should be slow to judge and label people.

To think before they speak, especially when they're angry. That saying they're sorry is important when they mean it, but that it doesn't always heal the wounds their words or actions have inflicted. Respect goes both ways, and has to be earned.

That being loved by someone else is important, but that being the one doing the loving is often even more so.

To stand firmly for what they truly believe is right in the depths of their hearts. That it can make a difference, even when it doesn't appear so.

There is so much to teach in order to raise a child to be a loving and responsible adult. So much.

When I have children, the first thing I will instill in them is that family is the most important thing in the world. I want a very traditional family lifestyle, as in we all eat together, have a big Sunday lunch/dinner as a family, all discuss our day and problems, etc at the dinner table together, and support each other in everything.

Sometimes families just don't work like that, and there's such a huge amount of conflict. I believe that if you start instilling these values from day one, and persist with them, you have a much better chance at the end of the day. Although there will be times when this will be challenged, with any luck and hard work it will all turn out well.

I will also teach my children compassion and understanding. I believe education to be a very powerful thing, and will not allow my children to be ignorant. I will talk to them about homosexuality, religion, different races and culture, disabilities etc, and breed acceptance (I hate the word "tolerance" - it suggests people must be "tolerated") and respect in them. If everyone did this, prejudice would be far less pronounced in today's world, something that would benefit everyone.

Of course I will also teach my children to write in a grammatically correct manner, and to spell! (I accept this may be a problem if they are dyslexic!)

I just want my children to have the right values.... and to write correctly! (Pet peeve, sorry...)

If you want to understand your son or daughter and she\he has between 2.5 and 7 years of age then a great process is that https://tr.im/CcKOJ , Children Learning Reading.
The benefit that Children Learning Reading program  has over a whole term recognition understanding class is so it is able to teach it's techniques simply speaking and satisfying  small steps.
With Children Learning Reading program you and your child will be able to spend satisfying time together as they learn how to read. No forcing your child to remain through tedious ‘check marathons ', the classes are very small that they're easy to suit into your daily routine. The whole class includes 50 classes and the classes were created in a way that it will not subject if you miss a few days between them. Therefore your son or daughter may continue on the path to studying accomplishment even when “life gets in the way”'.

I have already taught my children about religion, and always insisted that they study the subject for themselves, they have all learned it's nothing but BS.
They in turn are teaching their children and I will be surprised if any turn out to join the Priesthood!
The religious answers to this question are amazing, how can you teach children there is a God? Children have very enquiring minds, imagine the questions they ask on the subject, then imagine the fairy tale answers they must get in reply!
When the time comes to explain to the kids that there really is no Santa, it is also a good time to explain that there is also no God, so they will stop hanging up their sock for presents, and at the same time stop expecting miracles to happen!

To be open minded and accepting, to be fearless and take on any and all of her dreams, that to be loved you must give love, to try new and exciting things, work hard and be smart with money but that in the long run there are more important things than money, looks will fade so you better not rely on those to get you far..... i have soooo many things i want to teach my daughter, i have a very specific idea of the kind of person i want her to become, allowing of course for her own individuality and personality....

Self respect, above all things, which in turn will bring about respect for the rest of the world and all it's inhabitants.
I'd also like to teach them how to ride a horse because riding horses has brought so much into my own life and taught me more lessons than I ever learned in school.

I would like to teach them that everyday is a precious time, and should be lived in that way. That they should always try as hard as they can to be the person they are and be happy being them. That the past is something to be left behind and that love is the most important thing you can do for people!

I have a child?!

Honestly, I'd say everything that Rudyard Kipling does in If...

I think common sense is severely lacking in this modern world.
The fact that fame isn't everything and that money doesn't make you happy. How to love thy neighbour and respect everyone.
Being able to be sociable with anyone from any walk of life, and how to be content with what you have.

Tolerance. My mother always taught me tolerance. She told us to never ever treat any person badly. I remember once in elementary school one of the mentally handicapped kids was getting off the bus and all of us kids were loading into the school. A bunch of older boys were smacking the kid in the head with their lunchboxes while the boy yelled to stop. I wanted to help but I was a second grade girl. I still remember it to this day and make darn sure my daughter know to never treat another human being in that way, no matter who they are.
