I think he was protecting himself from George and Zippy's unwelcome advances - there was a real sexual tension between the three of them... did you never pick up on it?

Some of it does come down to the sexual tension. There should be no reason for it really, but the thought of them all nekit together in a bed put the frights on TV execs who probably thought that the only place sex happens is in a bed.
Although, as the programme is aimed at the under 6's... maybe the exec's were all a bit too wierd!

As a plot feature though, it does make some sense - george & zippy are little more than 'talking heads'... Bungle was the only one with a full body.. like the audience of little bratlings... so it enables the programme makers to show 'preparing for bed'... like all good little tykes should do. Getting ready for bed for zippy means just moving the hand stuck up his ar*e under the blankets. Don't try THAT at home, kids!!

well as the saying goes:
'zippy and bungle went to the jungle having some marvellous fun, zippy got silly and stuck out his willy and shoved it up bungles bum.'
its obvious he needed protection during the night - they all shared the same bed!

"Rainbow" was a children's programme, and was not intended to be adult entertainment. Bungle always dressed up for the part he was playing at the time; i.e., bed - pyjamas (note correct spelling), seaside - bathing costume, etc.

Why are you so bothered?

Why is this question in "Teaching"?
He was trying to protect his modesty from that well-known pervert Geoffrey ... I remember the actor got done for something naughty ... and as for the pink hippo, how gay an icon was that?
By the way, in English, the word is "pyjamas"
