Cancun is a great central location that I would highly recommend. From there, you can take day trips to several other locations, like Tulum, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, El Ray, Ek Balam, Chichen Itza, Coba, and many others. The prices in Cancun are a little higher than the surrounding areas, but you'll soon realize why.

With white talcum powder-like beaches, and great dining and night-life it's an unforgettable destination.

My family has made an annual pilgramige to Cancun for 15 years years now, and in recent years, we've gone two or even three times. I've stayed at all of the RIU hotels there (completely mind-blowing), at the Carousel hotel (nice and cheap), and recently purchased 3 weeks of time-share in a penthouse at the Royal Sands (the treatment at the Royals cannot be matched). Our second trip there, we stayed at the Ritz-Carlton, and while it was nice, I often got the feeling of entering a prison as we walked past the gates to get in.

My wife and I love Cancun because of the chance to relax, the beautiful beaches, and the great seafood. My kids love playing the beach, going to the water park, and swimming in the pools. It's a vacation that I suggest to everyone, and have even brought others with so that they can enjoy it too.

Other places to visit that are well worth while are Puerto Vallarta (stayed at the Villas Vallarta, it was awesome) which is home to the 3rd largest bay in the world and famous locations like the shooting location for movies such as Predator, Cabo San Lucas, Ixtapa, Playa del Carmen (home of wonderful people and the ferry port to Cozumel), Cozumel (scuba capital of the world), and several others.

For travel information and reservations on the cheap, I would suggest the site below. Every time I use it, it's prices be expedia, travelocity, and most others.

We just returned from Playa del Carmen. Stayed at the Occidental Grand Xcaret AI, its a great place. I have booked our return trip for January but this time I am staying in downtown Playa at a small inn. total trip for 2 in high season from DFW for 10 days is only $1380.00 Pretty darn reasonable to me. We will stay at the Kinbe Hotel. Small and quaint.
