I am originally from NY and have lived in Raleigh, NC for the past ten years. This area is really up and coming! We have several new malls including a fabulous new outdoor mall that is a great place to take the family. Our downtown area is popping up with some great new restaurants, clubs and shopping. There are lots of family friendly things to do here too. My sister and I just took the kids to two festivals in the downtown area... Artsplosure and Raleigh Wide Open. Lots of music, food, and fun! The cost of living is cheaper and you can still make a good salary. North Raleigh and Cary are a little pricier but both areas have good schools. Then on the weekends if you feel like driving there's the beautiful mountains, beaches, water parks, aquariums and sporting events. GO BOBCATS!!! PANTHERS RULE!!! North Carolina has some awesome food... Best BBQ in the world and great little tucked away places. If you get a chance check out our local Indy newspapers... They're called the Independent and the Spectator. They both keep you informed of local artists and events going on in the area. Oh, did I forget to mention our parks system? WOW!!! We have tons and tons of parks and some of them even interconnect. You can rent boats, walk the trails, or lay out on the grass. One of our parks even has a carousel and train and tons of stuff geared specifically toward children. I think this is a good place to raise a family, you just have to research the schools because some of them are not so hot. The bad area is SouthEast Raleigh. Other than that it's all good. We also have the State Fair that runs for two weeks in October. Fun rides, crafts and food. Then on the weekends the Fairgrounds is host to horse shows, boat shows, classic car shows, Fourth of July fireworks and flea markets. Don't forget about our colleges... NC State University, Shaw University, NC Central, etc.

It's beautiful - ocean in the east, mountains in the west. Mild winters. Friendly people. My sister lives there and I would move there too but most of my family is in Ohio and my husband's family is here, too. My sister and her husband moved there for jobs. They found it easier to find jobs there then in Ohio. My sister is a school teacher. She worked two years in the Mount Holly school system and liked it. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a great college on a beautiful campus.

Nothing.

I grew up in Detroit Michigan and lived in NC for 12 years. Couldn't wait to move back North.
Give me frozen pipes and high taxes. I like the energy in the North. I found NC quite dull.
