One of their main policies today states how they want to spread democracy to people who don’t have the freedom it brings. But they are responsible for removing democratic movements in nations such as Iran when it seeked to control its national resources or whenever it is convenient to have a dictator who is pro-American.
In today’s age it is becoming harder to fully control the facts which the public can access, all this info is out there and in history books, so when will countries be held accountable for their acts and stop trying to delude us all.
Oh and by the way, I know the British were part of Operation Ajax, but this is a question about the United States actions. Its not a debate, its a question.

President Bush signed a bill not long ago that allowed the funding of groups in Iran to overthrow the current government. They are essentially funding a militant group.
I will find that bill and post a link tomorrow night.

Operation Ajax removed the government of Iran and replaced it with the Shah
Operation Ajax ocurred in 1953, count 53 years go. It happened in the height of cold war hysteria. A different mentality pervaded the government in general in those day. Also the CIA was intensely more powerful and secretive than it is today. I would submit than anyone left in government service from those days was not a powerful decision maker then. Try citing something more recent and we may then have a point of discussion. We do not make it a habit of removing democratically elected governemtns around the world, and there have been no further attempts to overthrow the Iranian government since the Shah was deposed. I would submit that you need to quit living in past. I am sure you can find something more recent to indict the US on if you really try hard.
Woody: The United States has taken no direct action against Hizbullah or Hamas. We have not invaded Lebanon and or Palestine. We do however reserve the right to refuse to establish diplomatic relations with Terrorists (elected or not) who refuse to renounce terror as a weapon. Both Hamas and Hizbullah are still calling for the destruction of Israel. No group has the right to deny the right of another to exist period. In short they poseess no moral high ground or manifest destiny in their stated goals.

The British were not a part of it but started it, and as usual needed muscle, so they asked the US for help. Two different presidents had to be asked. This is in the early 1950's, isn't it? What does this have to do with democracy now? Why not ask how we could kill all the Indian's and steal their land? Or put Japanese into intern camps?
The US is not perfect, nor does it have the perfect model for democracy. What it does have is the best form of democracy and the best way of life, bar none.
Sometimes you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet this good.
And as always I have to put this... Blair's reply --
"A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in... and how many want out."

1. The British weren't "part" of Operation Ajax, it was to support the national British oil company who was losing its investments in Iran to a national Iranian oil company. The US supported the British, it was a British Operation. If you bother to read the history books you are referring to.
2. There is no issue of democracy there, the operation removed one totalitarian despot, replaced it with another, who remained friendly with the US and Great Britain until he was deposed.
If you are aware of history at the time, companies from GB and the US were losing billions in investments they made in foreign countries, only to have their investments "privatized". Like many decisions made by the US, this was a business decision.

The Americans supposedly go under the manifest destiny but i think it has been changed to suit the americans specifically. Also the governments in Lebanon and palestine were with international observers and were declared to be free by nearly all. Hizballah was electedby the lebanese and so was hamas by palestine since they are liked. The US did not like the result of the free elections so they imposed sanctions on plaestine and waged an anti hizballah campain as on CNN. The US put into power whoever suits them.

Democracyj is alway the blame child. It has been used many time from London to Zimbabwe, America to Vietnam and so on so on. I do agree it is business decision, nothing humanitarian at all. And America is always the boy who willing to do anything to be everything.
Read this up man, All the Shah's Men, An American Coup and The Roots of Middle East Terror,by Stephen Kinzer. You'll get better understanding and Better picture.
