The Mac system has a virus firewall that works very well over the Internet, added to that is the fact that since very few actually use the Mac system few viruses are tailored to it. It is also an easier system to use. The major problem with it is that very few people use it, so far fewer games and other programs are made for it. They're working on that though, making their systems more compatible with Windows software, but for right now it is tough to find software for Macs that can interact with anything else.

Advantage, MOSTLY free of viruses. There are a few viruses that affect OSX but they are not nearly as malicious as viruses and malware on Windows. OSX does have open security holes, as does any operating system but again, these are not likely to be exploited AS MUCH as security issues with Windows are.

Advantage, includes iLife suite (iTunes, iPhoto and so on...) note iTunes is also available for Windows but that is one of very few Mac only programs that have been ported to Windows (which is now Windows XP and Mac only).

Disadvantage, limited choices of software. Office for Mac is rather expensive, most photo editors for Mac are extremely expensive so seek out freeware alternatives when available such as OpenOffice for Mac and The GIMP photo editor.

Disadvantage, Mac OSX is limited to running on Mac Hardware but it is now possible to install Windows XP on all Intel based Macs (Advantage).

Disadvantage, the MacBook and Mac Mini (two of the lowest cost Macs) make use of integrated graphics only, this is not good if you intend to do any amount of gaming. For that you have to seek out the MacBook Pro but it starts at $2000 as opposed to the MacBook which starts at $1049. And PC laptops with dedicated graphics and considerably more features can be had in the $1000 to $1100 price range.

More stable than the other. Much much less security issues. As far as software available for it. Depends what ya want to do with it, most people just want to surf the web and get e-mail. It is more than adequate for that. I was a windows user for 9 years. Have been on the MAC for just under 2 and will never go back.
