He was married x 2. over 12 years both times. He has been on the railroad for about 38 yrs when he retires.
I have worked forever in a very stable profession and make almost as much as he does, so if I marry him, probably will not be entitled to anything. I contributed to social security and have a 403b. Also, his ex's have both re married and neither one put a clause in the divorce decree to get part his retirement crazy enough. They freaking "forgot" I guess. I worry about my financial future if I marry him. He is quite a bit older than I and has some serious health issues showing up. I dont know much about railroad retirement.
Do you know anything?

I worry if he gets sick, and I have to stop working to care for him, I will end up in the poor house. He retires in 2013 and I cannot retire until about 2030.

don't wanna marry this one if you aren't gonna get the money, huh! After all he's got that skanky daugher and and adult son to get in your way, too.

It probably wouldn't hurt to have a lawyer go over both divorce papers from both marriages. Divorce lawyers deal with these retirement clauses constantly.
Since both have remarried, I doubt the law will consider any claim they may have on his retirement. I would recommend a pre-nuptial agreement that guarantees none of your retirement package goes to former wives and kids.

Good luck...

I would definitely have a lawyer look at the divorce papers. But it sounds to me like if you marry him then you get his retirement plan in case of death. But don't take my word for it. Ask a lawyer.
