Coal Mining accounts for about 60% of the electricity used in the US. It is produced from surface mines and underground mines. Coal can be used for not only power generation but also liquid fuels such as diesel and gasoline. Another popular use of coal is to produce a Natural Gas product that fuels our homes and businesses. The US is the equivalent of the Middle East when it comes to having the coal reserves. The US must continue to develop its "coal to fuels" in order to eliminate the dependency on foreign oil.
