Dear All - I urgently need to arrange school observations in a primary school and secondary school (3 days in each) between the 5th of September and 12th of September 2006. I will be starting a secondary PGCE in September- Am willing to travel anywhere in UK - Any suggestions / advice will be greatly appreciated - A generous donation will be made to schools willing to assist - Thanks all. My e-mail address is robertraymondshaw@yahoo.com

Go to your local council's website. Find 'schools' or 'education' - you will find a list of all the local schools and their contact details.

During the holidays, only admin staff will be in everyday- teachers will pop in but not regularly. You therefore need to ring up and get hold of the office manager or Head's PA (as head honchos in the office). Ask if you can observe a class in the primary and RE/Humanities in the secondary- most schools are very used to this kind of thing (it looks very dodgy if you refuse, basically!) and will pass on the message to the relevant teaching team. They will then get back to you. It is likely that you'll be given a date to come in but the itinerary will be given to you on that day- this is because it being September they'll have new kids and will want to work out a range of abilities and personalities for you to observe.

Hmm... not sure if beginning if September is a good time for observation - if it's to observe lessons anyway. That time school just starts and the first week or so is usually very busy with new students still arriving, or students are getting books prepared etc, or it will be orientation week. This depends though on what you want. You could call a few schools or email them and explain to them what you want.

I would like to be clarified what you really need . Is it to observe classes or how to go about it. Even if I'm not from UK , I'm an school administrator maybe I can give some advice. My e-mail address is tvdacanay@yahoo.com.

Try the Church of Englands News, The Universe, Catholic Times and ask them, also write to the various local Church Diocese, also to the various Local Education Authorities
