.... Why don't we have it?
It seems to me that most of the people that I speak to believe that these things are necessary to enforce order in an increasingly dangerous and criminal society, so why isn't there a political party with enough b0llocks to stand up for this? Even the bloody Tories have gone soft! These things work as a deterrent - without them all that is shown to be left is chaos.
What do you think?

ps:

Dear MrFeelGood,

I think that you sound like a tofu-munching, socks and sandals wearing, lentil eating, creeping Jesus, hand-wringing liberal ...

... so looks like we're square.

You've answered your own question - there's no-one with enough b0llocks to set the wheels in motion. Anyone interested in forming a political party for bringing it back?

I think the problem is you would have to be 100% certain the criminal was guilty. i.e What would have happened if the "Shaken Baby" innocents were found guilty in the first place and thus sentenced to something pretty serious.

I'm all for it but you would have to think of something new as a serious punishment, e.g- maybe stop testing on animals and start testing it on rapists etc, at least you would know the effect the product would have on humans.

And try to nip a little unruly behaviour in the first place by bringing back national service

Can you show any definitive evidence that the death penalty works as a deterrent? A friend recently did a thesis on this and I can assure you that in 2 years research she was unable to come up with any evidence to support this assertion.

Think we do still have the death penalty for high treason but the power is never exercised as we are part of the EU and member states must not use the death penalty... its one of the reasons Turkey is having problems being accepted.

Studies show that the death penalty isn't a deterrent at all so please don't use that as an argument for your ultra right wing rant!

Please tell me where would you draw the line at a serious offence? And let's have a proper reasond debate about this.

I think it's extremely hypocritical to say that killing is wrong and then killing the killer in question! It doesn't act as a deterrent, no one thinks about their sentence while they're actually commiting the crime. All that the death penalty does is say 'It's wrong to kill, but it's ok for us to kill you because we said so'. What a load crap you people talk!

is it really an increasingly dangerous society we live in or is it what the media and politicians want us to believe?? imagine how many votes you get if you scare people into thinking that they are in danger and the good ol politician has all the answers to sort it out for you. who are you going to vote for?????????

tougher sentencing solves nothing and hasnt done so for 100s of years.

there is no one in government willing to put it in place.
We should have it back, I want it back and so do the majority of british people and that should be what decieds it - ie a vote of the british people handled like the general election regardless of what political party is in power.

I am certainly not in favour of copital punishment, and i don't think there is a majority here in the Uk who want have it either (as part of the law)

i totally agree with you if they were definitly found guilty then they should have the death sentence (for a serious offence) so they don't re-offend cos if they've done it once chances are they will do it again! (and they do because of our shite justice system!)
