While the subject of Barney's occupation (or where he even worked) was never given during the original series, subsequent spinoffs suggest Barney went to work at the Slate Rock and Gravel Company quarry alongside Fred, at some point after the original series' episodes take place, possibly in some office role. One episode had Fred inadvertently getting him fired, then helping Barney finding work as a repo man who ended up having to repossess Fred's TV set.

He grows pot near a small village in southern Mexico with Betty, Bam Bam, and his new kid, Puff Puff. But seriously, he works with fred at the mine job under Mr. Slate.

Not many people know this, but he's actually a spammer. In Bedrock, that means he writes ads for local companies on small pieces of meat, then throws them through people's windows whe they're not looking.
