So many people are willing to say such vile things about the President in this day and age, it just makes me wonder if anyone really respects the office anymore. This is not aimed at either political party as both sides have said some pretty offensive things. For Republicans I think it really began with Mr Clinton, as I don't remember such hate filled comments about Mr. Carter. For democrats it started with Nixon. I know many Democrats say it started with Bush, but they are either too young, or lack the historical perspective required to remember the slanderings of Mr. Nixon and Mr. Reagan. Or perhaps they have just forgotten the Cowboy will destroy the world mentaility of the 80's. I support the right to dessent regarding issues and people, but not rude slander.

Need a good example of what I am talking about read the Answerman's answer. Sir, I know why you can't respect the office of president, I have read enough your posts to know you don't respect anyone who doesn't fall into lockstep with your views. Terms like like Repuglicans and repukes are offensive. No one says you have to like any president, and the question wasn't advocating respect for the man, but rather respect for the office itself. You are a bomb thrower, and the sad part is that your intolerant views of others around you makes you look ignorant, and invalidates any good points you might have been able to make otherwise.

I think they have a lot more respect than they would let on setting at a computer. If any one of them had a chance to have their photo taken with a president of either party I believe that 99% of them would love it. I doubt they would say any of the types of things they put on here. Yes if you watch the news you will hear parties that fight each other and it is shameful they need to grow up. Those are not the regular every day Joe's though. Plus it is amazing how many 12 and 13 year old kids are on this site.

Once last thing that other countries never seem to count on from the U.S. We may fight with each other over our political beliefs That makes us look like a country being torn apart. However if another country trashes the u.s. 99.9% of our citizens will cross party lines to beat them to a pulp!

Most of us in my generation lost most of that respect with the Nixon stuff, and the Reagan years pretty much cemented it. After all of that, it was really remarkable to live through the wonderful 1990s, when President Clinton restored respect to the office. I'd never thought after the 60s, 70s, and 80s that I would ever feel good about a U.S. President again. Remembering those days gives me hope for the future - no matter how bad things are under GWB, we CAN rise up again to respectability.

Needless to say, there is no honor whatsoever in the current White House, and I have no respect at all for Bush. But I cannot forget that under Clinton we had a country to be proud of again, and it can certainly happen again in the future.

For me it started with Clinton. The repuke's were in such a hurry to discredit that they spent in access of 40 million tax dollars to do it and what did the find, he had sex with another consenting adult and lied about it. My problem is that Clinton's sex life had nothing to do with the way he run the country. I have no respect for George Bush as he is a crook and a coke snorting, alcoholic, and immoral, he managed to convince the dimwitted repuglican base that he was a born again Christians, well real Christians do not order bombing of baby's, woman, and old men for absolutely no reason other then personal gain. He not only should be impeached for his crimes against the constitution he swore to uphold but he should be arrested and taken to the world court at the Hague for his crimes against humanity.

Remember night Clinton was elected and interview was made with Bob Dole and seems that he stated that Clinton would not get free ride and the Republicans would do what could to discredit Clinton even before he was to take office.
Congress spent money to investigate mistake Clinton made but since it was dealing with sex the religious right saw way to get at Clinton.

Jerry Falwell went on crusade claiming Clinton had Vince Foster murdered to cover up misdeeds. From the beginning is what out to get Clinton.

I have respect for office of the president but no respect for Bush and his gang who ignored the military but can play game death with American lives.

I have respect for the office and the people on this site are cowards because they would not go on any television show and say these things about the president. Most of them I think are people from other countries posing as Americans, but the ungrateful Americans who are so disrespectful of the President should leave the country. It is ok to voice your opinion but to be disrespectful and degrading to a president that you are someone you know voted into office; is only making us look like idiots to the world. This Yahoo site is international for all the brain dead people who call themselves Americans.

Why should I respect someone who obviously has no respect for the American people?

Why should I respect someone who has no respect for the Geneva Convention?

I agree with you opinion on the right to dissent, but you have to understand that some people are outraged and this is how they express their anger. And some people are downright crude. Either way, they should be allowed to express their frustrations in a harmless manner that they see fit, not in a manner that someone else approves.

I think when ever there has been a close election where the President is elected by only a slim margin there is devisiveness.
this happened with Lincoln, kennedy (alot of people forget because of the tragedy in Dallas) another President who Ican't remember was barely elected as well, an other was Roosevelt for his third term.

More recently though because I think of mass media the internet, and peoples natural tendancies to feel slighted, we choose our camps, and radicalize them. I for one need to reign my horse in, at times I get so infuriated.

I have respect for the office. I just don't have much respect for the guy that is in there, but there is some. The office of President is still regarded pretty highly, though.

SOCIAL SECURITY:

(This is worth reading. It is short and to the point.)

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years.

Our Senators and Congresswomen DO NOT pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.

You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan.

In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.

For all practical purposes their plan works like this:

When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.

Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments..

For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275, 000.00 during the
last years of their lives.

This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries.

Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00 . NADA..! ZILCH...

This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds;

"OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK "!

>From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into, every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer). We can expect to get an average of $1,000 per month after retirement.

Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator! Bill Bradley's benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.

That change would be to:

Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us

Then sit back.....

And see how fast they would fix it.
