If that was the case there would be a lot of people locked up in jail now, because there have been a lot of people calling our president one. It is a hate crime to act upon that belief and do something to that person.

Probably not. Although the exact definition of the term "hate crime" varies by legal jurisdiction, in most cases a "hate crime" is an act committed against an individual that would be a crime regardless of motivation, which is aggravated in severity due to the motivation being hatred against a particular group (due to race, ethnicity, religion, or other factor--in some states disability status, sexual identity, and gender, for example). Calling someone a nazi does not target anyone on the basis of any of these protected factors (to be a "nazi" is most technically a description of a political ideology, not an identity characteristic), nor is giving someone a name, even a socially unacceptable one, a crime. On the other hand, spraypainting a swastika on someone's home or synagogue is clearly a hate crime, because it is a crime (vandalism/destruction of private property), compounded in severity because the intent is to terrorize or vilify a given ethnic, religious, or racial group.
That said, calling someone a "nazi" without some clear evidence that the person does subscribe to a fascistic or racist ideology is certainly rude and inconsiderate. But probably not a crime, and definitely not a hate crime.

no, it is just ignorance or hate for that person. Now if you kill that person or cause somekind of damage it is considered a hate crime. Someone called Bush a nazi this year and nothing was done. you might be put on a watch list because of whats going on in the world

If you look at someone and tell them they are, no, it's not a hate crime (freedom of speech and opinion is not a crime).
If you beat the crap out of someone (or kill them) because they are a nazi, then yes, that's a hate crime (you've actually committed a crime now).

Nazi has become a generic catch phrase for the guilt free decade of the double zero. It truly comes down to context. If a clerk in a fast food joint angers you and you scream "Nazi" while stomping away, that might be o-k, but if you are stomping someones face into dirt while screaming "Nazi" and adding a few choice epithets then you upset the local populace especially if the crowd is loudly proudly Republican. Peace.

I'm not a lawyer but this would likely fall under the term of a "bias incident" as opposed to a hate crime (where a law has to be broken such as an act of violence). No matter what it is, it's just plain rude and irresponsible to call anyone a disrespectful name. A huge apology is definitely in order.

No.
A hate crime is defined as doing violence to someone over race religion or sexuality.
Lets say you do not like gay people and decide to go out and beat them all up. that is a hate crime.
Or burning a cross in someones yard.
Or spray painting hateful words on someones house because of their ethnicity.
Just calling someone a nazi is not a hate crime.

No. Because a hate crime implies actions against a protected group.. or a group of people because of race/religion/sexual orientation.
If calling insulting people because of political ideology was a hate crime, we'd have to shut down Congress and the media.

No, if you mean it in the name-calling sense, like this person is a racist, or uptight or strict, etc. because name-calling is not a crime.
I suppose if you meant it in a factual way, such as this person was actually a member of the nazi party, etc. it could be considered slander or libel and therefore a crime.
Um... why do you ask?

it is the same as calling a black man a ni---- , a spanish speaking person a sp-ck , or any oriental person a chi-k . most german people feel as if this term is racist . Not all germans are proud of what Hitler did . As far as a hate crime , I do not think so . If you painted a swastika on a jewish temple , that is a hate crime . Remember what your momma always told you , " sticks and stones " .
