yes money Wise we pay for them out of our taxes

If the Royal Family were wiped out, Britain probably would lose a lot of tourism income. The tourists, particularly Americans, enjoy looking around the castles and palaces of a royal blood line that is still going, rather than the old systems that were removed on the continent. If the Royal Family were gone, ther wouldn't be so much interest.

That said, some say Princess Diana is even more popular now than she was when she was alive, and the fascination with the royals will draw people in, in years to come, and taxpayer's money will still be used for the upkeep of the houses (apparently, it is costing us money for a guard to keep an eye on Camilla's EMPTY house!) So therefore, very little will change.

Economically we would be worse off, They are not spongers, but actually invest and create more wealth than they recieve from the taxpayer.

I am not a fan of the royals personally, but I am also not going to peddle lies about them either.

They do a lot of godd for the UK and although I believe a properly and democratically introduced non-political president would be better, the Royal family create wealth and prosperity and privide a balance between our legislature and the military.

There still (just) exists an essential separation of power that doing away with the monarchy and the installation of a politician would destroy.

LISTEN, I'm proud of being English, and I'm pretty happy as part of a country that has one of the oldest continuous royal familys in the world, Why does everybody bleat on about them so much.

Can you imagine the affect it wolud have on the economy for a start, if they were phased out, it would be like taking Mickey out of Florida or the Massai out of Kenya, or Nessie out of Scotland etc, etc, etc.

Its not all take with the Royal family, thats just what the media wants you to beleive, in fact some Royals bring in more revenue to the country than they cost.

Simple question-; ask anyone not native to the UK to name three things they know about the UK, I can guess that 50% would mention the Royal family. And as for them being in the dark ages how many families do you know that have done the following-; Horse riding, sailing, skiing, soldiering, paintballing, piloting, parachuting, submariner the list is endless, I'm not a Royalist but I do feel it would be a major mistake to get rid of them..

Firstly they would never all be in the same plane anyway so the chances of killing them all off are remote and secondly I don't think we would be better off. They are symbolic and there do nothing that could harm us. However having a Royal Family sets us apart from so many other nations and brings in tourism and interest from other countries.

I think the big problem with the Royal Family is everyone else's view of them. They should be whiter than white and never make a mistake.... Why? They are human after all with the same failings and emotions as we have. Yes, it is true that they have luxurious lives compared to a lot of us but their life is conducted in a fishbowl. I personally think that Prince Charles is fit to be king because he has loved and lost and felt in the same way as we have and is therefore not so removed as to not understand his subjects. He loves his children and he loves his wife. He treated Diana badly but then she was never a saint either. He has stayed true to his first love and he devotes time, energy and money to charity... I can't see the harm in that.

I would have thought that even a buffoon would know that Royal protocul forbids senior members of the Royal Family i.e. those nearest the throne from flying in an aeroplane together. Oh, sorry, this is just another silly question to get a load of silly people to start ranting ........ fell for it!!!!!

Actually, it would be a considerable blow to the culture and history of the United Kingdom if the royal family ceased to exist. The loss of a single royal, Princess Diana, was a considerable loss to the country, who found in her a true "queen of hearts". To put it in simple terms, the monarchy is much like any other national monument. Imagine France losing the Eiffel Tower, Italy without the Colosseum, or the United States without the Statue of Liberty. The loss of the royal family would be like losing a part of its national identity and cultural heritage.

I honestly think that is a mean spirited question. However, even as an American I know this could not happen - the royal family does not all fly together at the same time to prevent such a tragedy. The same rule applies to the USA's President and Vice-President.

Well as much as I despise any royalty family. It's not their fault it is more like their predicament. They could just get in the plane and go to Fantasy Island with all the rest of the monarchies around the world and dine on cucumber sandwiches and drink their tea. The planet would be a better place without the families who think they are better then any other people around the world.

no, the royal family costs the equivalent of about 64p for each taxpayer, i bet u give the guy begging on the street more than that

they bring in approx £2bn in tourism each year from america alone, and as they are one of the longest running remaining monarchies they are renowned the world over

you may not like current royal family but thats just bcos they havent moved with the times, but i could see prince william running for PM in the future now wouldnt that be a turn up for the books (if they changed the law, that is)

Im not sure about them all dying... (Oliver Cromwell springs to mind...) but I think we should get rid of the British monarchy because it is a tradition that hasn't really stood the test of time.
All they are good for is tourism, but they eat away at our taxes and do nothing to help the country run.
The thing is, they are meant to be representing us, working class people, but they have never experienced what we have, so how would they know, that is why I think we should be a REAL democracy. We should become the People's Republic of Britain, and whilst we're at it we could kill off Tony Blair and get a decent president.
Also we could then put decent people on our money, heroes, we could do what america does. Like have past presidents (in a few decades) and people like the Wright Brothers etc.

Oh what a dream...

Lol, if I ran for president, who would vote for me?
