Only "natural" sources like spit and saliva may be used in maintaining the shine on the ball - usually achieved by polishing the ball on clothing . No means of scuffing the ball may be used. Rolling the ball on the ground is legal.

Illegal if you rub on the ground or anywhere else during a official match.
Rubbing it with your towel is allowed.
They usually rub it after 1 over.when someone has got out,some bowlers rub it after 1 ball and the again after 1 ball

a new ball would shine...n even if they wipe it with a cloth it would shine...

I think they sort of spit and rub. I'm not joking. I've seen that once before. Either that, or they huff and rub.
