Old vinyl signage is usually best removed with a little heat, try a hair dryer, or a commercial heat gun, but watch out for the heat gun, they get really hot, use the low setting, and be careful. Get the vinyl warm but not too hot, then peel it off. As far as the sticky residue, use goo gone. I personally have about 4 bottles of this stuff in various places, at home, in the tool box, in the trunk, etc. It is great stuff. It removes almost anything gooey from a wide variety of substrates.
Good luck.

this is what my father does for a living....makes them, puts them on and takes them off anyway. easy if it's on glass....use a razor blade. if on paint, to remove use a heat gun and heat up each letter separately. heat it up a little and use a plastic putty knife to lightly scrape at a corner. if it's heated enough, you should be able to pull on the corner that you scraped up and pull. If it's not so old and brittle, each letter should come off in one piece. If it is old and brittle, it will come off in pieces and then the best way is to heat and scrape the entire thing. Just don't use a metal scraper or push too hard, or you could scratch the paint. Once it's off, if you had the right amount of heat, there should be very little sticky residue left. You can use the goo gone on that. Just squirt it on the residue, let it sit for a few minutes, keeping it wet with the goo gone. Once it has sat wet long enough, you can use the same rubber putty knife and lightly scrape the rest of that residue off. Then a little bit of windex or soap and water will rinse away any of the goo gone left on the van. The goo gone will take off any wax that is on the vehicle, so if you keep it waxed, it will need another coat on that area. ---just a note--- unless it is a relatively new sticker, it will be next to impossible to remove without a heat gun.

Do you like the colour?
The colour of the van silly,....
The easiest way to get rid of those pesky stickers is to take it to a professional Auto Body Shop,... Chose a colour that you favor (or just go over board and get a custom paint job, classic flames never go out of style).
They will strip both the old paint and those darn stickers, for you as well as fix all those little dings & boo boo's before they give it a good sand blasting or sanding.
Other than the model of your vehicle, it will be just like having a brand new car.
Now about that smell,.... sorry I can't help there.
Good luck & may your driving be without inccidents!!

Just remove it best you can if it's a vinyl sticker material use a hair dryer and not a heat gun or you'll burn and bubble the pain just take your time. If it's a real plastic like the badges on you car you can use fishing line or dental floss and pull and rotate side to side behind the badge it will still leave glue etc once it's removed you can get from almost anywhere http://www.magicamerican.com/googone.shtml
If you can't find it then ACE HARDWARE or similar should have a substitute product to remove the glue residue.
Good luck be patient.

A hair dryer should heat the glue so you can peel it off, then try alcohol or Goo Gone to remove the rest. I don't know where you live but over the next couple of days if you just leave it outside you will not even have to use a hair dryer, lol

Almost any hardware store will carry a product called Goofoff,in a yellow can with red writing.Dampen a rag and get the letters wet,the stuff will almost fall off, even the glue. The letters are probably vinyl. The next problem you will have is the sun has faded the paint more, where there were no letters.Go to an auto parts store and purchase a rubbing compound, and put the elbow grease to 'er.good luck.

use a propane torch and warm the stickers [most likely vinyl] do a small area at a time but DO NOT BUBBLE THE LETTERING. while still warm scrape gently with a putty knife[do not gouge the paint] if you are afraid make a "sharp" wooden scraper out of a piece of wood, after the lettering is off there will still be the glue residue this can be removed with a old tee shirt dipped in cigarette lighter fluid [ronson brand works for me] followed by a good wash and wax. its drudge work but with a few brakes you can make it into fun good luck don't burn the paint or yourself . best bet is do it outside in the evening when winds are calm.

My brother had that exact same problem. My mom told him to use peanut butter. And believe it or not it actually does the trick. Just put some on the sticky part and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Once the time is up, take it off and apply a little water to the sticky spot. Rub it off and it should work! Let me know how it goes!

Peal them as best you can with your fingers.. This will leave a sticky glue behind. Then go back with GOO GONE and remove the sticky glue. This will NOT hurt your paint. it is the best method.
If you try to scrape off the sticker/glue with razor blade or the like you WILL scratch your paint.
