Has he tried a chiropractor or an osteopath. I've found a marvellous physiotherapist where I live who has been very helpful to me, but I know people who swear by chiropractors. (A chiropractor diagnosed me as having a candida problem years ago when the ordinary doctors were stumped and when I followed his instructions the candida in my spine cleared up within a week. I previously hadn't been able to stand upright)
Hope your boyfriend gets the right help soon. Keep him away from surgeons. They are usually quite happy to put people under the knife to further their scientific research. (and to make a lot of money!!)

Sounds like a problem with a plexus of nerves. A plexus is where a bundle of nerves coming from the spinal cord divide into smaller branches.
Right brachial plexus problems will affect the eye and arm on that side while sciatic plexus problems will affect the groin and leg.
Why he could have this could be an underlying disorder like Syringomyelia or MG ;or it could be psychological and stress related.
Please see a neurologist for a complete analysis.

Ask your doctor about an exercise routine. Regular exercise, such as walking three times a week, may reduce neuropathy pain, improve your muscle strength and help control blood sugar levels. Gentle routines such as yoga and tai chi might also help.

10 years ago i had double hernia
the only pain i get is in my groin
i am prescribed "diclofenac sodium enteric coated tablets"
judging from what you say this is nothing to do with his hernias
sounds like blood problems lack of vitamins and minerals
or had a mild heart attack/stroke
i have a friend with similar symptoms he had a stroke
