=> Round & Curvy tablets are usually easy to swallow.
=> Some smaller tablets for adults are in heart shape or some other shape for example tablet ASA.
=> Some Chewable Tablets are in Square size.
=> But generally the tablets with sharp edges is not easy to swallow. It might hurt the throat.

If you care to look at any pill book you would see that medications come in all sizes and shapes, round, oval, square with rounded corners, and of course, large. Perfectly square pills with shape corners might cause problems when swallowed; hence, they are not common.

Normally pharma companies do not make tablets of sharp edges becoz of swalloability issue.
also along with the oval or round shape , tablet are usually coated not only for elegant looks but also to be able to swallow smoothly.

Good question...but I too wonder why..may be round pills are easy to swallow...square pills may get stuck in the throat...

In the circular ones there are no corners. While passes through throat it will not irritate icase due to some unexpected entry in the throat/nose/ear (intenal) joints it will come out of that passage easily.
Also in the formulation while the cetnrifuge delivers the material to drying machine it will dry evenly and can be easily embosed with a brand!

You haven't taken a square pill! They dig into the throat and don't go down too well.

Singulair pills for asthma are square-shaped. But they're very small, too.

they are easy to swallow
some pills are meant to be broken in two
and capsule shape hold more than square
and it is easier to hold in your hand
