It is one of the fastest growing tortoises. The rate of growth depends on many factors but mainly the type & amount of food given.

each and every sulcata is distinctive. If its a newborn now ( softball sized) it could make it to small dinner plate in a year with perfect nutrition and care. that being suggested. I certainly have considered 4 year olds that weigh 45lbs, and function a 5 year previous right here it quite is 9 inches SCL yet grew to become into malnourished and is pyramided badly. odds are its unlikely to rocket advance and be too super on your place in a year. A kiddie pool makes an excellent residing house for a small sulcata seek for Sulcata Station on line. Its an excellent website finished of ideas for keepers

http://www.tortoise.org has a whole series of articles dealing with this giant tortoise and what one family went through raising one.

This IS NOT a good tortoise choice for a beginner or anyone else unable to provide the proper care for a really, really big tortoise!

Sure, they are really cute as babies- but what is the plan for a few years later when they start getting to 30+" long and getting close to 100 lbs and costing you a ton for upkeep?

This is one of the most abandoned tortoises there is- and the reason is always the same- they were not able to care for it when it got big.
