Wow, Jaded is...jaded. It depends on the school district and/or state as to whether corporal punishment may be used. It is NEVER used without parental consent. I don't know if the strap itself got banned, but most principals prefer to keep a paddle (with holes to create less wind resistance) for show. It's usually given as a gag gift when promoted.

Wow, how about the old ear twisting?

There are still 23 states, on the books, that permit it. It's referred to as 'strapping', or corporal punishment.

Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, No. Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, So. Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Wyoming.

Did you know that here in Texas, there is a clause in all school handbooks that says that corporal punishment CAN be used unless the parent or legal guardian sends written notification that they are NOT allowed to hit their children??? I send a letter to my child's school every year, quoting the section & paragraph in the handbook, and tell them that they are not allowed to practice corporal punishment w/my child, and get a snotty response back saying "we don't do that" -- every year i argue for a signed copy, telling them that while they SAY they don't, they need to read their own handbook!! It actually still allows this practice!!!! unbelievable! Hit my kid, and I'm kicking your ***!!!

I've known of a few schools which still have it as an option even if they don't use it. (But, they could have just been saying they did to scare students)
