Imagine life as a great big computer screen with icons all over the place. Some people can see the whole screen and then chose to click on happiness, depression, altered states ,etc.
But ,most of us suffer from beliefs ,or at least habits, so we keep on hitting the same icon when we have the option , whether happy, or whatever, because we believe the truth lies there .
Some people are uptight ,but believe they are fun ,happy folk. Some are easygoing, they don't get upset, even when things are rough. Others believe the world is tough and can't even enjoy the good times.
Most people are more complicated than they appear though, so the easy goer may have to fight an alcohol problem. The fake happy one may have a breakdown, and the 'realist' may be limiting his possibilities with his judgementalism.....

Some people try to stay happy no matter what, but they see life for what it is. Others just act oblivious to anything negative just to forge this ideal and innocent world.
I am a realist but I try to let nothing get me down. The magic word here is try. Sometimes I may seem like a complete optimist or at times a pessimist, but I am mainly a realist.
I am sure you know no one has everything going right for them. Even if it may appear that way to outsiders.
Some people are just really good at masking negative things that happen to them from other people. Some just try to look at the bright side and others, the pessimists, or so called realists (many pessimists like to call themselves realist) just assume that because someone has a happy or positive demeaner that means everything is going well for them. Dont be one of those people that assumes everything is going well for someone just because they smile a lot. That way of thinking isnt exactly bright either in any sense of the word.
I can tell from your question that there is or was some negativity. Since you didn't further elaborate or describe what your problem is/was, i will offer you one suggestion: don't focus on "stupidly happy people" because it may not only make you feel negative, but it may in turn make you go crazy as well... or even worse stupid yourself.
Focus on your own house and bring prosperity there because we all have enough problems. Sometimes we focus on other people to avoid our own, which can be a waste of time.

k, so somebody's been in a bit off lately!!!
First of all, there is nothing as stupidly happy people. Because stupid people don't really think much and hence, rarely know what to feel...they don't know how they feel themselves! (Really sorry if I offended some people!)
Now, happy people just are light headed. They know how to take things in a lighter mood. So, you really can't blame them for being happy.
I believe that everybody can be happy always....just think positive. If people are teasing you about something, just ignore them. If you can't do that, no need to worry. Try to figure out something which teases them and go hit em' with ur words. k?
Also, think of only good things that happen to you. Not the bad stuff. Believe in your thoughts. TRust yourself. Write out 10 things good in your life, or that happened on the particular day and think about them. You start feeling low, just think of some silly ol' joke or crazy thing. Just, be free. Don't bind yourself in the worldly affairs of today...not completely at least. B'cuz the more you bind yourself, the more u'l feel chocked up n' stuff and won't wish to to do anything that makes u feel good.
k, I guess I 'v written enough to make ppl go nuts, c ya!

There's research done on the subject. Below you can find a citation from this author reknown for the studies on happiness. As you can see, it's not about stupidity. Or maybe it is...
***
Lyubomirsky S.
"Why are some people happier than others? The role of cognitive and motivational processes in well-being."
Addressing the question of why some people are happier than others is important for both theoretical and practical reasons and should be a central goal of a comprehensive positive psychology. Following a construal theory of happiness, the author proposes that multiple cognitive and motivational processes moderate the impact of the objective environment on well-being. Thus, to understand why some people are happier than others, one must understand the cognitive and motivational processes that serve to maintain, and even enhance, enduring happiness and transient mood. The author's approach has been to explore hedonically relevant psychological processes, such as social comparison, dissonance reduction, self-reflection, self-evaluation, and person perception, in chronically happy and unhappy individuals. In support of a construal framework, self-rated happy and unhappy people have been shown to differ systematically in the particular cognitive and motivational strategies they use. Promising research directions for positive psychology in pursuit of the sources of happiness, as well as the implications of the construal approach for prescriptions for enhancing well-being, are discussed.

The one significant disadvantage to being self actualized is that you must face the truth about yourself. Many people do not have that burden and simply live. The disadvantage is that when life deals them a hard blow, they can never take responsibility for their part of the problems. They look to blame everyone else...which makes rebounding from trouble very difficult.

Happiness is a very difficult to describe. There has been no correct explanation to it. The nearest meaning to it has been to be content with what has and to lessen one's wants and desires in life. Everything in life goes on right for these people because they 'seek' happiness by limiting their wants and desires to be happy.

no one has it good all the time. just doesn't exist! people who remain happy all the time know what they're doing and it's a great choice of life actually. what do they call this again? ah yes, the road less traveled. that's what it is. it's the unusual, unpopular choice, but some people do achieve it. nevertheless, they - like the rest of us - have stuff to make them sad too. they just choose to not be sad unhappy people.

They are so lucky! They were born with what it takes to live long, happy lives ~ focusing on the positives and ignoring the negatives and anything that might upset them. I know someone like that - she's 95 and will probably outlive me!
