...your ancestry? How much do you know about your family? Anything interesting?
My grandparents were Irish, Italian, German and Choctaw Indian. I have gone back several generations on my father's side, and learned that my German name was originally spelled differently. I'm just starting this, and doing it as I have time, because it is quite time consuming. But...it's very interesting.

I am from German, Irish, and Dutch so far in my research. I have found most of my surnames were spelled differently. Except the fact that my great grandfather changed his last name around 1901. Family rumors from both surnames say that the law was after him. Haven't found any facts on the story. I have about a little over a years worth of info on my mom's side of the family. I started all four surnames at the beginning and it was very confusing. To make a long story short. I have about 8 large 3 ring binders full of family group sheets, lost count on folders of births, deaths, marriages, etc. and I don't know how many pocket folders full of info. Gone back as far as 1733 on my mom's side.
Yes, time consuming but I love going down the family tree.

A bit, but every time I get anywhere, it asks me for money!!
I know that I have Spanish roots (family surname Martin, probably shortened from Martinez), which is strange, as my family have always loved Spain, and we now live here! Maybe it's a sort of ancestral pull..
By the way, I'm not being funny, it's something I find really wierd, I've always felt "at home" in Spain, much more so than I ever did in England - where I was born.

Genealogy is very interesting. My grandmother was very into it before she passed away. Turns out we are related to Daniel Boone.
On the other side I have a mix between being descendant from German royalty and slaves.

My dad was born in 1927! He was in his 50's when he had me. I am 30.
My dad died at 72. His mom and dad died. His sister died and my last aunt is going to die. When I die that will be the end of our family name. I have a few cousins from my 2 aunts but they are in their 40's now. I am the only cousin w/ the original family name.
My mom was adopted so I know nada of that side either.
Kinda like an orphan huh?

I have not done this. I have a very complicated family history. I did decide a couple of years ago to try to find some information about my paternal grandfather, but after searching with no results for about 3 months, I gave up. Haven't tried again. it was too frustrating. One of these days, I'll pick it up again.
Good Luck to you!
