You will need to apply to the Chinese authorities for a visa. Hong Kong is no longer a British Crown Colony.

You will need to apply to the Hong Kong authorities for a working visa as UK nationals no longer have visa free status. If this is done through your employer, there will be no problems. China owns HK but does not run it until 2050. Visa requirements for HK are totally different than China, and neither country has jurisdiction over the other in immigration terms.
