I just bought the vehicle used and don't know what's been done to it mechanically. The manual talks about problems with the emissions control system and not to drive too far or at excessive speeds. I just need ideas about what maintenance repairs can be done to possibly eliminate any major issues.

First I will tell you to take it to Auto Zone they will scan it for FREE! if you have a light on. Chances are it's not that big of a deal hell even a loose gas cap will throw and MIL light on some vehicles it could be an O2 sensor or other sensor but chances are if it's still running and you can drive it it's something small like a sensor. Also check your fluid levels all your fluid levels ... Oil, brake fluid, etc some times low oil or other low fluid levels will throw a service vehicle soon light.

Pep-Boys "He He" ..... will be your cheapest route for repair ...

GOOD LUCK!

The first post is correct there are many things that can cause a code. You should have it scanned to see what codes are present. If you want to learn part of the cars history you can go to a dealership and have them run the vin# this will tell you what has been done while the vehicle was under warranty.

Have the system scanned by a professional. There are too many things that can set a code to even start guessing.
